The factors are weighted so that the model and condition have the greatest influence on the result. For the ‘model’ factor, for example, a Classic Flap is awarded a higher score than a GST, as the latter is less in demand on the resale market. Once the condition score (as new, very good, good or well-loved) has been determined, we look at the accessories. Are there any original accessories left at all? Are they complete with the box, dust bag and certificate of authenticity, or are only some of these included? And finally, rarity. A classic lambskin or Caviar bag receives fewer points than exotic leather or bags from limited editions or Métiers d’Art collections. Regardless of these four main factors, there is a small bonus on top if the bag is particularly old. However, this only applies if it is also exceptionally well-preserved and in ‘very good’ or ‘as new’ condition. We therefore give extra points in our score to old treasures that have been particularly well looked after. A bag that has held up so well over decades is a truly special investment piece.
